Entrepreneurship Fundamentals Quizzes
20 course points · Equally weighted quiz percentages · One lowest score dropped
🌎 Overview
Our fundamentals quizzes check your understanding of the vocabulary and ideas we’ll use throughout the course. You’ll work independently, drawing on the assigned glossary, readings, and class discussion.
The series covers six areas: terms and concepts; recognizing and shaping opportunities; developing business plans and pitching opportunities; experimenting in the entrepreneurial venture; attracting talent and building ecosystems; and financing entrepreneurial ventures. Check the course schedule and each eLC quiz for the assigned material and timing.
🤔 Rationale
A shared vocabulary helps us spend our class time on more interesting questions. Once you can explain a concept, you can use it to investigate a founder’s decisions, compare approaches, and make a stronger recommendation of your own.
Prepare to explain what an idea means, why it matters, and how it works in a business. Recognizing a familiar term is a useful start; being able to use it is the goal.
🏗️ Structure
Preparing
Study the assigned glossary and readings, along with relevant explanations from class. Develop working definitions in your own words, practice distinguishing related concepts, and try applying them to a concrete example. If a reading presents a process or a set of tradeoffs, make sure you can explain how the pieces fit together.
Taking the quizzes
Quizzes may include selected-response questions, short written answers, and other question types shown in eLC. Read each prompt carefully: explaining a distinction, identifying several components, and discussing advantages and disadvantages require different kinds of answers. Respond to every part of the question.
All quizzes are closed-note. You may not use outside resources while taking them. Complete quizzes individually, and follow the instructions and time limit displayed in eLC.
Quizzes designated in person must be taken in person. For an approved remote quiz following an excused absence, the existing course requirements apply: a lockdown browser and an AI-powered virtual proctor, with your webcam and microphone on. Follow the posted setup instructions before your quiz begins.
Absences and makeups
Makeups aren’t ordinarily available. Exceptions require unusual hardship, emergent extenuating circumstances, or an arrangement approved in advance. Contact me as soon as you know you need an arrangement. The dropped-score rule below provides a buffer for a missed quiz or a rough day.
📓 Grading
Individual questions
Each question has the point value shown in eLC. Selected-response questions are scored according to their answer key and configured scoring rules. Written answers are evaluated for accuracy, completeness, and the explanation the prompt asks for:
- Full credit: The answer is accurate and addresses all parts of the prompt. When an explanation or application is requested, it makes the relevant reasoning clear. Accurate wording in your own voice is welcome.
- Partial credit: The answer demonstrates some correct understanding but leaves out a required part, explains an idea incompletely, or mixes correct reasoning with an error. Credit reflects the understanding actually demonstrated.
- No credit: The response is blank, doesn’t address the question, or doesn’t demonstrate relevant correct understanding.
You don’t need to turn a short answer into a miniature essay. You do need to provide enough detail to show what you understand. A list of terms won’t fully answer a question that asks you to explain their significance.
Course points
The entire quiz category is worth 20 course points. Here’s how it works:
-
Convert each quiz score to a percentage of that quiz’s possible points.
-
Drop your one lowest quiz percentage, including a zero for a missed quiz.
-
Average the remaining percentages. Each retained quiz counts equally, even if quizzes have different raw point totals.
-
Multiply that average, expressed as a decimal, by 20.
For example, if your retained quiz percentages average 85%, you earn 17 of the 20 course points. There’s no additional conversion scale. An approved exemption is excluded from the calculation rather than recorded as a zero.
The previously published syllabus bonus remains in place: emailing me by the close of drop/add with hustle and your ENTR section time in the subject line earns two extra points on a quiz of your choosing. That original deadline still applies.
